Workout Motivation Tips That Actually Work

Creating a regular exercise routine is no easy task, but once you’ve nailed it, your temptation to skip a workout (or two) should start to fade. Obviously, the key to sticking it out is finding the motivation to keep going, which is much easier said than done, but luckily, we have a few workout motivation tips that can actually help you stick to your new routine!
#1 - Think About What You Can Do Today
While looking at the big picture can help you put things into perspective, doing so can also make you feel a bit overwhelmed. Fortunately, there is another way. Instead of thinking about ALL the work it will take to reach your goals, just think about what needs to get done today. Maybe it’s finally booking that class you’ve always wanted to try or just doing the 15-minute workout you’ve had saved for a while. Whatever your thing may be, just focus on that and worry about what’s next after you’re done. Once you’ve conquered today’s task, then you can worry about tomorrow.
#2 - Take Your Goals One Step Further
When it comes to working out, a lot of people’s goals are to lose weight or get in shape. These can be good on their own, but they’re really more like surface-level goals for what you actually want to achieve. Knowing this, it can be beneficial to take your goals one step further to help you find a stronger motivation. Instead of simply wanting to lose weight, think about what losing weight will do for you. Maybe it’ll help you be better at your job, keep up with the kids more, or even help you avoid some future health problems. These deeper connections to why you want to get in shape or lose weight can be much more motivating when you feel like giving up.
#3 - Entertain Yourself While You Work
We don’t know about you but running on a treadmill while staring at a blank wall for an hour doesn’t sound like fun to us (which is why we prefer our 30-minute 9Round workouts 12) . Exercise on its own, depending on what you’re doing, can be a little boring sometimes, which makes it harder to keep going. Pairing your workouts with something else you enjoy could help you push through to the end without giving up. You can pair exercise with a variety of entertainment options to help keep your mind running along with your body, such as listening to music, watching a TV show, or tuning in to a podcast.
#4 - Use Exercise to Disconnect
The exact opposite of our tip above is to use exercise as a time for disconnecting from everything else to focus on your mental wellbeing. Put away your devices, remove all distractions, and just focus on your body’s movement. This can help you decompress after a stressful day and forget about your troubles for a little while. With this tactic, exercise slowly becomes a mental release that you look forward to rather than something you dread.
